Qualifying Mandatory reporting Election calendar

General information

Prospective candidates should contact the Clarke County Board of Elections and Registration prior to taking any action with regard to the election. In particular, do not raise or expend funds without first obtaining instructions from the board.

Qualifying

All qualifying for local offices takes place at the Board of Elections office in the courthouse. Qualifying for the August 20 primary begins at 9:00AM June 19th and continues during normal business hours until 12:00 Noon on June 21.

The election for Clarke County Board of Education will take place in November. There will be no July primary for school board. School board qualifying begins at 9:00AM July 29 and continues during normal business hours until Noon on August 2.

January 1, 2002 Earliest day to file and publish a notice of intention to be a write-in candidate in the General or Nonpartisan Election. O.C.G.A. 21-2-133 (a)
February 19, 2002 Last day a person may register and be eligible to vote in the March 19, 2002 Special Election. O.C.G.A. 21-2-224(a)
June 19, 2002 - 9:00 A.M. Earliest day for a Political Party or Nonpartisan Election candidate to file Declaration of Candidacy/Notice of Candidacy to have his/her name placed on the General Primary/Nonpartisan Election Ballot. O.C.G.A. 21-2-132; 21-2-153

July 22, 2002 Last day to file affidavit stating that notice of intention to be a write-in candidate in the Nonpartisan Election held at the same time as the General Primary has been published in accordance with O.C.G.A. 21-2-133.

September 9, 2002

Last day to file affidavit stating that notice of intention to be a write-in candidate has been published in accordance with O.C.G.A. 21-2-133 (a) (1) (2)

October 7, 2002   Last day a person may register and be eligible to vote in the General and Nonpartisan Election and Runoff. O.C.G.A. 21-2-224(a)

Note:  General Primary Runoff  & General Election Runoff :  All candidates in the runoff  shall have a two-day grace period in filing the required reports.

IN A NONELECTION YEAR THERE ARE ONLY TWO REPORTS TO FILE:
JUNE 30, 2002 AND DECEMBER 31, 2002 WITH A FIVE DAY GRACE PERIOD.


A supplemental report shall be filed by the office holder no later than December 31st of each year, following the year in which the election occurred. (O.C.G.A. 21-5-34(e)).

All candidates shall have a five-day grace period in filing the required reports.

If a run-off election is required following a primary, general, or special election, candidates in such an election shall make such reports six days prior to the run-off election and shall have a two-day grace period in filing the reports. (O.C.G.A. 21-5-34(c)).
